Ultrasonic Immersion Scanning Systems

Immersion scanning systems are often required if a large portion of the volume of a test piece must be inspected. These systems generally control the motion of one or more ultrasonic transducers as they are used to inspect the part. Such systems can inspect test parts of simple geometry, such as disks, cylinders, and flats, and arbitrarily complex-shaped parts. The test pieces are immersed in a water-based coupling medium in order to allow ultrasound to be efficiently introduced into the interior of the part. The entire system, including motion control, data acquisition, and data analysis, is controlled by a computer.
